Game list
Last modification date: 2025-01-29This is a list of games I have played or want to play. If I’ve played them, I have a short comment on what I think of them. If I have a lot to say, I may make a separate page out of it and link it here. A star emoji (⭐) means that I really loved the game and it made a special impression on me.
At the very end of the page there is a shortlist with just the titles and star (sorted alphabetically) which link to my commentary on the game.
Note that the “Amount played” tag refers to the amount of time I’ve played the game at the time of writing the comment. It may be the case that I’ve played more of the game after.
Anyway, here’s the list:
Nuclear Throne⭐
Amount played: Beat the game once (~10 hours)
Great roguelite twin-stick shooter. Requires extremely fast reflexes and map awareness (the latter of which I apparently don't have). Great game. Highly recommended.
Ring of Pain⭐
Amount played: Beat the game once (about 2.5 hours of gameplay)
Really solid roguelite. Sort of Slay the Spire-esque but without the cards. I really enjoyed it.
Crow Country
Amount played: Played the demo
Finished the demo and really liked the aesthetic. I'm happy this is getting explored more and fleshed out (most PS1-style games of recent years did not really hit the mark in my opinion). I am not the audience, though.
Basingstoke
Amount played: About 2 hours
I found it quite repetitive and boring. The stealth elements were not fleshed out very well. It's not a bad game per se, but I found it unremarkable.
Bleak Sword DX
Amount played: About 2-3 hours
Cool aesthetic. Pretty simplistic. Nice for like an hour or two but that's about it. Quite repetitive otherwise. Still, nice aesthetic.
Disco Elysium ⭐⭐
Amount played: Finished the game (once)
Truly unbelievable. The writing is phenomenal, the theming is perfect, pretty much everything about this game is amazing. This is probably my favorite game of all time.
Celeste ⭐
Amount played: ~8 hours (beat the game)
Extremely good precision platformer with a lot of depth, both in terms of gameplay and story. I usually don't get captured by story in video games, especially not heavy gameplay-focused ones, but I was invested here.
Also, fuck wind, it is a horrible mechanic. It genuinely is not just "challenging" (there were harder parts that I did enjoy), but is just annoying and tedious.
Anyway. Extremely good game. Play it.
Colt Canyon
Amount played: ~8 hours
Really fun but gets repetitive after a few hours, despite the variety of characters and loadouts. Picking different characters and loadouts don't really change the game all that much.
Stray
Amount played: beat the game
Played it together with my girlfriend, who loves cats, and a good friend of mine, who also loves cats. The game itself isn't anything super special, but I still really enjoyed it. It's clearly made primarily for cat fans. Thankfully, I also love cats so I could extract maximum value from it.
Temple of Rubbo
Amount played: ~150 hours (allegedly? Probably mostly afk hours of me leaving the game on by accident. Actual game time is probably more like 3-4 hours)
Fun little cutesy roguelite. Not particularly special, but it's fun for an occasional quick game.
Balatro ⭐
Amount played: 100+ hours
Extremely fun poker-themed roguelite card game. I never expected to love a game this much. I got addicted to this (rare for me this days) and played it every chance I could get for weeks.
Rocket League
Amount played: ~60 hours
Football but with cars. Really fun concept executed very well. Very clunky at the beginning and takes a while to get the hang of it, but very rewarding once you do.
Mortal Kombat X
Amount played: ~50 hours
Probably my second favorite Mortal Kombat game (after Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3). Pretty good fighting game.
Mirror's Edge
Amount played: beat the game
First person parkour game. Great concept executed very well.
DOOM (2016)
Amount played: 19 hours
Really great FPS that does its name justice. My computer was not good enough to play this game when it first came out, but I remember pining for it for years until I got a computer that could handle it. It was worth the wait. It hasn't made a big enough impression on me for it to get a gold star, but it's definitely a great game.
Don't Starve Together
Amount played: ~20 hours
Great concept that somehow never stuck with me. I really like the art direction (both visually and aurally). Great to play with friends, but for some reason I could never really get into it enough to play it alone. I want to love this game, but I can't say I do.
Borderlands 2
Amount played: ~15 hours
Rated extremely highly by seemingly everyone, but I find it utterly boring. The characters are funny and the art direction is solid, but the gameplay is just extremely repetitive.
Into the Breach ⭐
Amount played: 100+ hours
Absolutely amazing concept amazingly executed. Probably one of my favorite games of all time. My favorite way to play it is with a friend that can think along, but not many friends of mine want to play it with me :(.
Superhot ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
Very unique concept first-person puzzle shooter executed extremely well. I have no bad things to say about it.
Lone Survivor ⭐
Amount played: 10+ hours (restarted multiple times; never beat it)
Great horror adventure game. I never beat it since every time I played it I left multiple years in between which meant that I have to restart it to be up to speed. My favorite way to play is with friends in a dimly lit room (I'm too much of a pussy to play it myself, plus adventure games like this are more fun with friends anyway). I have amazing memories playing this as a kid with 5-6 friends of mine in the living room of my parents house with the lights off and all of us hoddled around the TV discussing what to do next.
Betrayer
Amount played: 12 hours (restarted multiple times; never beat it)
Really cool concept and interesting art style, but I just can't get myself to like it. Something about the game doesn't keep my attention.
AirMech
Amount played: 12 hours
I barely remember this game, but I remember playing it in primary school with a friend of mine. It's kind of a robot MOBA with some tower defence elements, if I remember correctly? Anyway, I remember finding it fine, but not good enough to play by myself.
Monaco
Amount played: 10 hours
I have fond memories playing this in primary school with my best friend at the time, but I also remember being quite bored by it. The fond memories are really just me having an excuse to hang out with my best firend. I already found it quite boring at the time, and playing it recently, I still think it's not really it.
Project Zomboid
Amount played: 10 hours
Quite a disappointment. The concept is really exciting, but I played it in 2014 or so and found it quite disappointing and clunky. I've been told by a friend that it's really great now, but I haven't had a proper chance to play it yet. Doesn't help that it doesn't play that well on the Steam Deck (the controls are unintuitive on a controller. I should probably play it with a mouse and keyboard).
Portal 2
Amount played: 9 hours (never beat it; most hours in multiplayer)
I can't find myself to love this game as much as everyone praises it. It's good, but it never really reeled me in.
Blackwell Deception
Amount played: beat the game
Classic point-and-click adventure. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember really enjoying it!
Little Big Adventure Classic
Amount played: ~8 hours
Really like the vibe of this game. Makes you feel like you really are on an adventure. There's this feeling that old games can create that's hard to describe: a feeling of having been on a great adventure, where you can look back at where you started and where you are now and feel like you've been playing the game for years.
Magicite
Amount played: ~8 hours
Fine game to play with a friend. Nothing special.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Amount played: ~7 hours
It's fine.
Thief Gold ⭐
Amount played: ~10 hours in total (never beat it)
I really love this game. I remember torrenting this as a kid (~12 years old) and installing it on a computer in a room in Ohrid we rented out on vacation. The room happened to have a computer with an internet connection, and for some reason I felt like downloading and installing Thief on it and playing it. I thought the atmosphere of the game was enthralling and it really gives you the feeling of being a thief, sneaking into huge mansions, mines and castles and scouring them for loot. My only complaint (beside the clunky controls, which are just a product of the game's age), is that I really feel like paranormal elements are grating to the overall vibe.
F.E.A.R. 3
Amount played: ~6 hours
I remember playing this with my best friend in primary school and finding it quite boring.
MURI ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
There aren't enough modern original Duke Nukem-style games out there. It's quite interesting that the NES style of retro game theme is extremely popular, while the DOS theme has gone by relatively unrepresented in modern nostalgia-core games. Either way, I really love this game.
Iji ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
An amazing indie game before indie games were big. I have very fond memories playing this as a kid.
Europa Universalis IV
Amount played: 27 hours
A lot of people love it, but it doesn't really appeal to me. Can be fun when playing with friends (which comprises almost all of those 27 hours of gameplay), but outside of an excuse for me to socialize, it doesn't appeal to me.
CS:GO
Amount played: ~300 hours
Decent multiplayer game, although I don't really like it as much as CS 1.6. CS:GO is probably objectively the better game, but the memories I have of CS 1.6 will never be trumped by it. note: the link links to Counter Strike 2, which replaced CS:GO. I have never played this version, though
Counter Strike 1.6 ⭐
Amount played: probably thousands of hours
I used to play this for hours on end every single day for years with friends in primary and to some degree high school. I have a lot of nostalgia for this game and the whole community spirit around it, with many custom game modes, thousands of privately hosted servers you used to have to scour the web for (there were dedicated sites that listed open servers) and more. I wonder if people still play this...
Little Kitty, Big City
Amount played: beat the game
Similar to Stray in it being a game primarily targeted towards cat lovers, except even more extreme than Stray. The game itself is pretty buggy and not particularly special, but I enjoyed playing it with my girlfriend and walking around as a cute kitty. It has a great sense of humor and brought me a lot of joy, but I probably would not have finished it myself and would probably not recommend it to anyone who doesn't really like cats.
Moonring ⭐
Amount played: ~12 hours (haven't beaten it yet)
One of my favorite games of the last 5 years. Extremely good classic DnD-like game. Never finished it because I got stuck at a part that could've been bugged out (I was playing a pre-release version that was quite buggy) and haven't gotten the chance to get back to it (yet!).
Tetris Effect: Connected
Amount played: ~20 hours
Really great way to play Tetris. Really like the Zone mechanic; it fits really well within Tetris and is a tasteful addition. My only real issue with the game is that it's horribly optimized and runs like dog water on my PC, even on the lowest settings. It doesn't feel like a game that should run that badly, even with all of its fancy effects.
Dota 2
Amount played: 3000+ hours
A great MOBA that I have no intention of playing again due to the fact that it requires you to be deeply involved into the game (know all hero abilities, know all items, know the current metas, etc.) to play it at a high level. It has changed significantly since the last time I played it, so getting back to it would require me to sink in too much time into it.
Inscryption ⭐
Amount played: ~15 hours (beat the game + a few hours infinite mode)
Absolutely amazing game. Despite the game making it very clear from the get-go that it's going to be breaking your expectations, it somehow just keeps getting crazier and crazier.
It also has an infinite mode, but I didn't actually find it that compelling.
Dead Cells ⭐
Amount played: 300+ hours
Very very good roguelite.
Undertale ⭐
Amount played: beat the game once (watched let's plays of other endings)
Great game. Was expecting it to be overhyped but it deserves all the praise it gets. Definitely expanded my brain.
Cave Story ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
Has a special place in my heart and is one of my favorite games of all time. I completed it in primary school on a modded PSP (I don't even know if the game ever officially got released for the PSP, but the verion I played was definitely some homebrew port).
Rogue (1983 IBM PC version)
Amount played: 3-4 hours
Played as part of my OGEN series on the Dutch learning server Nederlands Leren. Surprisingly fun for how simple of a game it is. Extremely cool to look at it as a piece of history as well. Would not recommend it for most people, as it's quite simple and clunky by today's standards.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon ⭐
Amount played: less than 10 hours
Exceptionally great game. Nothing innovative, unique or groundbreaking, but just an extremely well executed classic roguelike experience. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try out a true roguelike. Plus, it's free software released under the GPU GPL v3.0, and that's always a great thing.
SteamWorld Dig ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
I had this game for years before I properly got to play it. I launched it one day randomly just because I needed to test my living room Steam Link setup, thinking I'd just play it for half an hour to test things out and then I'd be done, but then I ended up beating the game and loving it so much I immediately went on to get the second one. My only complaint is that it's too short.
SteamWorld Dig 2
Amount played: ~8 hours (never beat it)
Got this game immediately after the first one. It's really really good, but I got bored of it after 8 hours or so and never ended up finishing it. Bummer, maybe I just wasn't in the mood and should try it again?
Antichamber
Amount played: beat the game
Great first-person puzzler concept executed very well. I still don't know how they managed to do it. Pretty cool game.
Divinity: Original Sin
Amount played: ~5 hours
Not my type of game. Found it quite a slog.
Strife
Amount played: ~5 hours
Generic MOBA. Nothing very interesting going on.
MOLEK-SYNTEZ
Amount played: ~5 hours
Good puzzle game (like all Zachtronics games). These kinds of puzzle games are not really my thing, but I still enjoyed this.
Trine 2
Amount played: a few hours
Found it quite boring.
Saints Row: The Third
Amount played: a few hours
It's okay.
Warframe
Amount played: a few hours
Played it a few hours with my girlfriend. It was fine. Most of the fun came from the fact that I was playing with my girlfriend.
Void Stranger ⭐
Amount played: beat the game (or well, at least got one ending)
One of my favorite games of the past decade. Absolutely amazing and extremely mysterious. It really feels like I've barely stratched the surface of everything there is to find out about this game. Really gets the noggin joggin.
Firewatch ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
Great vibe. Really enjoyed the story and the scenery. The ending was quite disappointing, but oh well.
Tuin
Amount played: 3.3
Not my favorite Sokpop game, but it's not a bad fidget-game.
Machinarium ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
One of my favorite games of all time. Beat it with three other friends. One of them loved it so much he kept praying for a sequel.
Shotgun King
Amount played: ~5-6 hours
Turn-based tactical chess-em-up. Great game.
Blacklight: Retribution
Amount played: ~3 hours
I allegedly played this for three hours. The game is so unremarkable that I genuinely remember absolutely nothing about it. Kind of expected with a name that ends in "Retribution".
Mount Your Friends
Amount played: ~3 hours
It's good stupid fun. The gaming equivalent of fast food. It's not going to expand your brain, but it's fun with friends.
Risk of Rain 2
Amount played: ~5 hours
Pretty good. A lot of people love this game. I think it's nice, but nothing amazing.
Lord of the Rings
Amount played: ~3 hours
I vaguely remember finding this game aggressively okay.
CS: Source
Amount played: ~3 hours
A hundred times worse than both CS 1.6 and CS: GO.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Amount played: ~3 hours
Interesting action adventure game. I want to love it, but for some reason it's not hooking me in.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes ⭐
Amount played: dozens of hours
One of the best party games ever devised. Highly highly recommended to play next time you invite a friend over.
FEZ
Amount played: ~3 hours
It was pretty good. Interesting concept for a puzzle platformer.
Bastion
Amount played: ~2 hours
Supposed to be amazing. I thought it was fine. It never really kept my attention.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Amount played: ~2 hours
Extremely uninteresting.
Super Meat Boy
Amount played: beat the game
Very good precision platformer. I loved this game as a kid, and I still have a physical copy of it. Haven't played it for more than a decade so I can't comment on how much I love it today.
Gunpoint
Amount played: ~2 hours
Pretty good. Not compelling enough to make me finish it.
Paranautical Activity
Amount played: ~2 hours
It's okay.
Unturned
Amount played: ~2 hours
I played it with a friend in primary school and remember it not being very good.
Pigments
Amount played: a few hours
Really cool game. My girlfriend really likes it too.
Dino D-Day
Amount played: <2 hours
I played this briefly when it had a free weekend. I actually remember really enjoying it, but I never got back around to playing it more. I don't think it's active anymore.
Brütal Legend
Amount played: <2 hours
Deeply uninteresting.
Scribblenauts
Amount played: <2 hours
Extremely cool concept. Not really that interesting otherwise.
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Amount played: <2 hours
Not very interesting.
FTL: Faster Than Light
Amount played: ~5 hours
God I really like this game, but I haven't really sunk my teeth into it properly yet. I really want to, though.
Audiosurf
Amount played: ~5 hours
It's good! I like that you can add any track you want to it; really makes it so that anyone can enjoy it.
Kill The Bad Guy
Amount played: ~2 hours
Pretty cool puzzle game! Nothing amazing but still nice.
Timberman
Amount played: ~2 hours
Not a bad fidget game.
Among Us
Amount played: 1 hour
I hate this game, but I think the game is well designed. It's just really not my thing; probably because I'm a really really horrible liar and can't act for shit.
Legend of Grimrock ⭐
Amount played: beat the game
I adore this game. I have a lot of nostalgia for Dungeon Master (played it as a kid when I had a shitty conncetion that was only good enough to download abandonware). I don't remember very much of it, but I just remember beating it and really really loving it.
The Witcher 2
Amount played: ~2 hours
Really can't get into it.
White Lavender
Amount played: a few hours
I really like it. I softlocked myself at some point because I got to a location I was not supposed to be able to get to (probably clipped through a wall or something) and then I couldn't get back anymore.
Payday: The Heist
Amount played: probably around 50 hours.
I loved this game as a kid. Can't say I like it now.
Hellblusser
Amount played: a few hours
Pretty decent roguelike! Nothing that will change your life, but it's fun to play occasionally.
Cry of Fear
Amount played: beat the game
I remember playing this game co-op as a kid. I have pretty fond memories of it.
Smite
Amount played: probably around 30 hours
Pretty good MOBA, but I was in my Dota phase at the time, so I didn't really feel the need to play another MOBA regularly.
Dead Island: Epidemic
Amount played: ~5 hours
It's okay.
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1 ⭐
Amount played: dozens of hours
I love this game. Played it for many many hours on Xbox and beat it many times (it's a pretty short game).
Furious Farm: Total Reap-Out
Amount played: ~3 hours
Hilarious concept and executed pretty well. It's probably also a great party game, but I haven't played it with friends yet.
Hammerwatch
Amount played: about a dozen hours
Great with friends, boring alone. But I have a feeling that's the point.
< FOR ME: CONTINUE FROM SOKPOP CLUTCHBALL >
Games I've played but have nothing to say about (yet)
